🚧 You play a role in work zone safety. Work with us! 🚧
National Work Zone Awareness Week is this week - April 17-21 - and we have some tips and reminders to share as the construction season kicks off in Battle Creek, and around the state and country. Please follow barricades, follow detours, and watch out for workers as you travel around the city and beyond.
🟠 Avoid distractions - Put down your phone and focus on traveling safely through work zones.
🟠 Read the signs - Work signs are often orange, or posted on barricades. Follow those messages.
🟠 Obey posted speed - Many work zones post reduced speed limits, but slow down even if they don't. Speed was a factor in almost one-third of 2021 fatal work zone crashes (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
🟠 Be prepared for sudden stops - Things can change quickly in and around a work zone, so be ready.
🟠 Be careful around large vehicles - Narrow lanes and traffic shifts can be challenging to large vehicles; give them as much space as you can.
🟠 When we close streets in the City of Battle Creek, we share the information on our website, social media, and interactive map, which updates Google Maps and Waze. See our map directly here: https://battlecreekmi.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=8bcd8770654d4e1fb8b3141be056d3e1
