BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City water crews will repair a fire hydrant in the City Hall parking lot, resulting in the closure of a small area of the parking lot during work, tomorrow, Thursday, May 25.

Crews expect work on this project to occur from 7 a.m.-3 p.m., with concrete replacement work to be completed at a later date.

There is no expected water shut-off or road closure as a result of this work.

City street crews will complete work on a utility road cut, resulting in the temporary closure of a section of East Van Buren Street, next Wednesday, May 31.

The specific section of East Van Buren Street affected by this temporary closure is:

  • East Van Buren Street, between Poplar Street and Elm Street

Neighbors living within the temporary closure area will still have access to and from their homes during work hours.

A suggested detour route for traffic during the temporary closure is as follows:

  • Eastbound: Turn left on Elm Street, turn right on Cherry Street, turn right on Poplar Street, and then turn left to resume eastbound on East Van Buren Street
  • Westbound: Turn right on Poplar Street, turn left on Cherry Street, turn left on Elm Street, and then turn right to resume westbound on East Van Buren Street

Work is expected to begin on this project at 7:30 a.m., with crews wrapping up by 1 p.m.

We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
