BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City crews will begin tree trimming in preparation for Battle Creek Transit detours, during the upcoming July 2023 closure and reconstruction project for the Capital Avenue SW bridge over I-94, Monday, June 5.
The closure of the Capital Avenue SW bridge will require the rerouting of BCT buses traveling southbound on Capital, to access Beckley Road, along several streets.
Crews will be selectively trimming trees along sections of these streets to raise the tree canopy along the BCT detour route. Raising the tree canopy will allow for the BCT buses to travel the detour route without causing any damage to the trees along the route. An additional benefit of this tree trimming work will be increased sunlight reaching the road, helping to prolong the life of the road surface.
Crews will perform tree trimming along sections of the following streets:
- Mason Road
- Dunham Drive
- Adams Road
- Beckwith Drive
- Brookfield Drive
- Riverside Drive
Work hours during the tree trimming project will generally be from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Crews expect the work to be completed in 21 working days, around June 30, weather permitting.
There are no expected road closures during this tree trimming work. Neighbors are encouraged to be aware of crews and equipment in the area.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
