A person of interest in the homicide of Arely Hernandez was arrested earlier Saturday, June 24, in the state of Georgia. Battle Creek Police and the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office are coordinating with local agencies in Georgia to have the subject extradited back to Calhoun County.
No additional updates will be provided until the extradition is finalized.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police are investigating a murder in the area of Golden Avenue and Riverside Drive this morning, and are looking for the community’s help.
At about 1:20 a.m. today, officers heard gunshots in the area, and discovered a car in the tree line at the edge of Riverside Park, at Golden. When officers approached the car, they found a woman inside with apparent gunshot wounds.
The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance responded and tried to save the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police continue to investigate. Based on the investigation so far, police feel confident the community is safe.
