BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Consumers Energy crews will be completing final traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of Emmett Street and Fremont Street, resulting in a temporary closure of part of the intersection, today, Thursday, July 20.
The specific part of the intersection of Emmett Street and Fremont Street impacted by this temporary closure is:
- East side of East Emmett Street, at the intersection of Emmett and Fremont Street
During this work, crews will have temporary traffic controls in place, including a posted detour, to guide traffic and neighbors around the closed part of the intersection.
Crews expect this work to be completed by 10 a.m. today, Thursday, July 20, weather permitting.
If this work is fully completed, city signal and sign crews expect that the traffic signals will be back up and running normal operations at the intersection, by the end of this week. Final messaging will be shared to notify neighbors of the removal of the temporary stop signs and return of normal traffic signal operations, should this be the case.
As a reminder, the upgrades included the replacement of a control cabinet, as well as the wiring from the cabinet to the traffic signal. The upgrade work was determined to be needed following a malfunction of the traffic signal to “flash mode” at the intersection over the weekend of July 8-9. Crews determined that the signal couldn’t be returned to normal operation due to issues with the equipment that required replacement.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
