City offices will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of the Independence Day holiday and staff wish our residents and visitors a wonderful holiday and experience at the Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival.
On Monday, July 4, Battle Creek Transit bus and van services will not run. Normal services resume on Tuesday, July 5.
Please also note that Waste Management, the city’s trash and recycling hauler, is closed on July 4. Residential pickup will be delayed one day the entire week.
As everyone enjoys their celebrations, we’d also like to remind you of local laws regarding use of consumer fireworks.
Use of these fireworks by the public is allowed only on the day before, day of and day after a national holiday. In this case, fireworks are allowed on July 3, 4 and 5. However, fireworks may be used only between the hours of 7 a.m. and midnight on these days.
Fireworks may not be used on public property, school or church property, or in any park or playground in the city. Fire and police officers will enforce the city’s fireworks regulations, with fines up to $500, and officers may confiscate and/or destroy fireworks used to commit violations.
If you have a fireworks complaint, please call 911 and police will respond. Even if you don’t know exactly from where the noise is coming, give the dispatcher/officer an idea – for example, if it’s north of your house – and if the fireworks are still going off at the time of your call.
