A teen remains in stable condition after what Battle Creek Police say was an accidental shooting.
At 7:40 p.m. Wednesday evening, a police officer assigned to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital was present when the 16-year-old boy arrived with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Police determined the shooting happened in the second block of Highway Street, in Post Addition. A 17-year-old Battle Creek boy fired the gun.
During the police investigation, officers executed a search warrant for a home near the scene of the shooting. They found two handguns during that search.
Police determined this was an accidental shooting that happened because the teens had access to the guns, and handled them carelessly.
Police will submit a juvenile petition/charges to the Calhoun County Prosecutor for review, related to the 17-year-old.
