BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Contractor crews will be installing new traffic signal equipment at the intersection of Capital Avenue SW and Beckley Road this weekend, resulting in the intersection operating as an all-way stop beginning Saturday, Aug. 19.
This installation work requires the traffic signals to be turned off. As a result, temporary stop signs will be in place at each of the three directions at the Capital Avenue SW and Beckley Road intersection that are still open to traffic during the Capital bridge project.
This installation of new traffic signal equipment is being done in concert with MDOT’s Capital Avenue SW bridge project that is currently underway. While all the signal equipment is being replaced, the only noticeable changes neighbors might see are very minor changes to some of the timings of signal patterns.
There are no expected additional road closures during this installation work, outside of existing closures due to the Capital Avenue SW bridge project and Beckley Road water main project.
Crews expect the installation work, and the all-way stop at the intersection, to begin Saturday, Aug. 19 and be wrapped up by Sunday, Aug. 20, with work hours generally from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. each day.
Once completed, the traffic signals at the Capital Avenue SW and Beckley Road intersection will return to their current, construction-related operations by the morning of Monday, Aug. 21.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during all work on our city’s infrastructure.
