Due to the winter storm in our local forecast for Friday into Saturday, the City of Battle Creek will close our administrative offices at noon on Friday, Jan. 12, and declare a snow emergency starting at 3 p.m. Friday.

The latest information this afternoon from the National Weather Service shows that the Battle Creek area could see eight inches of snow or more; we are close to the line of uncertainty, so it is difficult to know for sure what the storm will look like for us. We are also expecting high winds, with gusts over 40 and up to 55 mph, which could cause significant blowing and drifting snow, and power outages.

Following this storm, the forecast calls for temperatures in the teens, colder wind chills, and lake-effect snow next week.

The following information is in place today. We will continue to share updates on our channels if the storm prompts additional service changes.

  • The NWS predicts heavy snowfall starting around noon on Friday. As such, for the safety of our neighbors and staff, we will close city facilities at noon on Friday, Jan. 12. Please note that city facilities are closed on Monday, Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
    1. Full Blast Recreation Center will close at noon Friday, and remain closed Saturday, Jan. 13. It will reopen Sunday for regular hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and is open Monday.

  • Neighbors parked on the streets will have until 3 p.m. Friday to move their vehicles – After that, Battle Creek Police will work to make contact with the registered owners of vehicles still on the streets. Police will have vehicles towed as a last resort, at the owner’s expense.
*If you do not have a driveway or an alternate place to park, please place your contact information inside on your dashboard, or another place easy for police to see.*

  • Battle Creek Transit will continue current hours and service on bus routes, Tele-Transit, and BCGo on Friday. We will share updates if that changes.
You can sign up for Transit-specific alerts at battlecreekmi.gov/notifyme, in the Alert Center category. For help planning your trip, call Transit at 269-966-3474.
