Other information: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a confirmed structure fire at approximately 2 a.m. at 247 N Woodlawn Ave. Engine 5 was first on scene, and discovered that the entire back of the house was on fire and ensured all occupants were safely out of the structure. They pulled a line and extinguished the fire, while Car 3 arrived to assume command. Rescue 2 performed all interior searches, Engine 4 established a water supply, and Truck 1 performed ventilation and secured utilities. Consumers Energy, SEMCO Energy Gas Company, and the Red Cross were notified. Smoke detectors alerted the residents of the fire and they were able to make a quick exit. The fire was caused by the electrical junction box on the exterior back of the structure.
