Owners of rental housing are invited to attend a dinner and utility assistance discussion on Tuesday, July 26.

The event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 400 Capital Ave. NE.

The session will focus on utility assistance available to people in need. Utility assistance helps people keep their housing and their electricity, water and heat. Participating in the discussion panel and answering questions from attendees will be representatives from the city, Community Action, Consumer’s Energy, The Salvation Army, SEMCO Energy and TrueNorth.

This is part of an outreach effort to area landlords, in an effort to help them develop better relationships with nonprofit service providers, to expand opportunities for homeless families and individuals to find and remain in safe, affordable housing. This is the fifth rental property owners outreach event organized by the Rental Housing Roundtable, part of the Greater Battle Creek Homeless Coalition.

Landlords are invited to attend and RSVP to the city at 269-966-3364 or rentalroundtablebc@gmail.com. Landlords also can register at http://goo.gl/forms/Ztjo8SvOn3.

Participating organizations are Community Action, Legal Services of South Central Michigan, The Haven of Rest Ministries, Summit Pointe Housing, The Salvation Army, Southwest Michigan Community Development Corp. (formerly Neighborhoods Inc.), the Fair Housing Center of Southwest Michigan, the Share Center, S.A.F.E. Place, and the City of Battle Creek Community Development Division. The event is sponsored by participating organizations, with funding from the Battle Creek Housing Commission and the Fair Housing Center.

Attendees will be entered into a drawing to win prizes.
