[ARCHIVED] City seeks public input for Master Plan update

Master Plan map

The City of Battle Creek has begun the process of updating the Master Plan, which will serve as the city’s official guide for land use, growth and development over the next 10 to 20 years.

The city’s last Master Plan was completed in 1997.

This will be the city’s updated “road map,” detailing a long-term vision and policy agenda for important issues related to land use, development and sustainability. The plan will guide policy decisions and help the community achieve its long-term objectives. The plan also will outline an implementation strategy for the included recommendations.

Ultimately, the plan will answer two questions:

What should Battle Creek look like in 10 to 20 years?
How do we get there?

To answer these questions, the city invites residents to participate in the project website, community conversation and Neighborhood Planning Council workshops.

The project website is available via the city’s home page, www.battlecreekmi.gov. Look for the Master Plan update under “Current topics.” There you can view documents as they become available, participate in surveys and a mapping tool, and more.

The city will host a community conversation at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in the Lew Boyd Room of the Kool Family Community Center, 200 W. Michigan Ave. (refreshments will be served). Join staff to talk about the purpose of the Master Plan, the upcoming process and schedule, and share your views on positives, problems and potential in our community.

In November, staff will hold workshops with each Neighborhood Planning Council. Those with an * signify meetings that are on a different day and/or at a different location than the regularly-scheduled NPC meeting:
