[ARCHIVED] City extends rain barrel sale

Rain barrel

The City of Battle Creek has extended its online rain barrel sale, to encourage residents to collect and save valuable water in our community.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, lawn and garden watering make up nearly 40 percent of total household water use during the summer. Rain barrels collect water and store it for when you need it to water your garden or wash your car.

Purchase a rain barrel at http://upcycle-products.com/static.asp?path=7955. They are available for $56.50 each in a variety of colors. Anyone may purchase the rain barrels, whether a city resident or not.

Orders must be received by Sunday, Aug. 21.

The pre-ordered rain barrels will be available for pickup from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 at the city’s Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St. Someone can pick up your barrel in your place; please bring your payment receipt. Orders not picked up at this time will be donated to local schools for educational purposes.

Saving water helps protect the environment and diverts water away from storm drains, decreasing the impact of runoff to streams. For more information on rain barrels, visit the Battle Creek Area Clean Water Partners at www.bcwater.org.
