Other information: Battle Creek Fire Department crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the eaves and rear of a single-story, wood-frame family dwelling. Once crews were on scene, they were informed of possible victims trapped inside the structure. While performing fire control and a primary search for victims, a firefighter passed out inside of the structure and a mayday was called. Fire crews quickly removed the unconscious firefighter, while the primary attack crew still performed fire extinguishment. Crews also continued searching for victims, but ultimately did not find any. Fire crews then performed overhaul to make sure the rest of the structure was extinguished.

The firefighter that had passed out inside of the structure did regain consciousness later, once outside. The firefighter was then taken to Battle Creek Bronson Hospital by LifeCare Ambulance, where they were later discharged. They are now home and doing well.

This fire is currently under investigation by the Battle Creek Fire Department Fire Marshal's Division.
