Full Details: The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Arbors of Battle Creek apartment complex at approximately 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, to reports of a working fire with multiple victims trapped and jumping from windows.

Rescue 6 arrived to find two victims trapped inside their apartments and hanging from windows on the second and third floors. Rescue 6 deployed ground ladders and performed two rescues before initiating fire attack. Rescue 6 located the fire on the second floor, and performed fire attack and overhaul of the primary fire occupancy.

Rescue 2, Engine 4, and Engine 1 performed searches of the building, ruling out additional victims. Engine 5 was deployed as a Rapid Intervention Crew, while Engine 3 assisted with establishing a water supply and overhauling the fire unit.

While there were no injuries reported, one victim was evaluated for smoke inhalation on the scene and was released. One dog was found deceased, as a result of the fire.

The BCFD was assisted by both LifeCare Ambulance and with crowd control by the Battle Creek Police Department.
