[ARCHIVED] Battle Creek fire crews respond to suspicious fire at vacant church

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 576 W. Van Buren St. shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, June 13.City of Battle Creek News Release with the Fire Department logo and an image of a ladder extended to a building.


Engine 5, Rescue 2 and Car 3 arrived within three minutes to find smoke showing from a vacant church. Engine 5 deployed a handline and quickly extinguished the fire, which was isolated to the center of the first floor. Rescue 2 checked the basement for fire extension, while Truck 1 ventilated the structure.


The fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation by the department’s fire inspector. No injuries were reported.
