BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – City contractor crews will begin work on the 2025 Local Rehabilitation project, including milling, paving, and other improvements, along several roadways starting tomorrow, Wednesday, July 9.

This project includes milling existing asphalt surface and repaving with new asphalt, sidewalk ramp upgrades to meet ADA compliance, and upgrading pavement markings to increase visibility at night. Additional concrete pavement upgrades will occur at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, as well as asphalt removal and replacement at the Battle Creek Executive Airport on an access road near the Federal Aviation Administration building.

The following list of roadways are scheduled to undergo milling, paving, and other improvements, as part of this project:

  • Springview Drive, from East Roosevelt Avenue to North Avenue
  • Maple Grove Avenue, from Capital Avenue NE to Lark Street
  • Evans Street, from Capital Avenue NE to Maple Grove Avenue
  • North LaVista Boulevard, from Goguac Street West to West Territorial Road
  • Perry Road, from Beckley Road to Minges Road South
  • Minges Road South, from Beckley Road to 3 1/2 Mile Road
  • 3 1/2 Mile Road, from Minges Road South to Division Drive
  • Division Drive, from Helmer Road South to 3 1/2 Mile Road
  • Moffitt Place, from Jordan Street to Hubbard Street
  • East Hamilton Lane, from Capital Avenue SW to Riverside Drive
  • North Brady Road, from West Dickman Road to Brydges Drive
  • Cass Street and Service Street – updating pavement markings
  • Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at 2000 River Rd. W. – concrete pavement upgrades
  • Battle Creek Executive Airport, located at 15551 S. Airport Rd. – access road asphalt removal and replacement

While there are no expected complete road closures during this project, local traffic should follow all construction signage and flaggers during both phases of the project to keep everyone safe and to get the work done in a timely manner.

The first phase of this project will include updating sidewalk ramps within the project limits. City crews will be placing door hangers the week of July 7 to notify neighbors who could be affected by this work. Please be aware of sidewalk closures and follow all work zone signage to keep you and our crews safe.

The project’s second phase will include milling and paving at a later date. (Stay tuned for updates!) Neighbors affected by this work will receive another door hanger with at least 24 hours’ notice before milling and paving take place on their roadway.

Battle Creek Transit expects for most routes to remain unimpacted by this project; however, neighbors are encouraged to sign up for Transit text/email alerts on the city website in the Alert Center category. You can also follow the BCT Facebook page. Neighbors who need help planning their trip can call BCT at, 269-966-3474, and our Mobility Manager or dispatch team will be happy to help, as well.

Crews will begin this project Wednesday, July 9, and expect to be completed by Oct. 31. Work hours will generally be from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Road rehabilitation entails restoring, repairing, or rehabilitating existing pavement surfaces to extend their usable life, avert future road problems, and increase performance and durability. This is just one of the treatments that the City of Battle Creek uses as part of a total asset management approach of applying the right treatment on the right roadway at the right time. Using the right “mix of fixes” to maintain a roadway lengthens the effective life of that roadway and reduces the total cost of the pavement over its useful life.

We appreciate our neighbors’ understanding and patience during all work to improve infrastructure across the City of Battle Creek.
