BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Lakeview Avenue, shortly before 8:30 p.m., yesterday, Friday, Dec. 26.

The BCFD’s Engine 4 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from the Charlie/Delta corner of a single-story apartment, with four units. Car 3 took command, while Engine 4 located an exterior stairwell to the basement and made the push down to the fire. Truck 1 performed search of the apartments above the fire. Rescue 6 assisted Engine 4 with fire attack. Truck 1 and Engine 3 located a small fire on the first floor and extinguished the fire with a water can. Rescue 2 and Engine 5 performed searches of the other apartments and assisted with ventilation.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of the BCFD’s arrival. All residents were put into contact with the American Red Cross after being displaced, due to smoke damage and utilities being turned off. The BCFD was assisted by both the Battle Creek Police Department and LifeCare Ambulance during this incident.

This incident is under investigation by the BCFD Fire Marshal’s office.
