The Battle Creek Police Department wants to remind everyone they should be alert for extra activity and some road closures for the great variety of events happening in town this weekend.
We hope everyone participating has a great time and enjoys Battle Creek!
Events happening are:
· Cereal City Corporate Cup events will take place Friday evening and Saturday morning through early afternoon. Outdoor events mainly will be contained within Bailey Park and the nearby Linear Park path and the Binder Park Golf Course, but please be alert for increased activity in these areas.
· The Miles for Memories 5K walk/run begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with a half-mile community stroll starting at 9:10 a.m. This event raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Disease.
The race takes place throughout the downtown. Expected road closures are as follows:
o West Michigan Avenue and West Van Buren Street – from Washington Avenue to Capital Avenue SW – from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
o Other cross streets may be closed during this time with barricades. Please be alert for runners and walkers, and watch for police and volunteer direction.
· The St. Philip Catholic Central High School homecoming parade will take place on Saturday in the downtown area. It is expected that Van Buren Street will be closed to traffic – from Capital Avenue to United Way – from approximately noon to 1 p.m.
· The first-ever BCPD Chief’s Challenge will take place Sunday, Sept. 18, starting at 9 a.m. There will not be any road closures during this non-timed event, so please just be alert for participants in the outlined areas:
o Participants will start at Bailey Park and bike to Saylor Park.
o They will kayak from Saylor Park to Historic Bridge (County) Park.
o They will run the Calhoun County Trailway, connect to the Linear Park path and finish at Bailey Park.
