Battle Creek neighbors complete 2026 Citizens' Police Academy

Police Spotlights Posted on February 06, 2026

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Eight Battle Creek neighbors graduated in late January as members of the Citizens’ Police Academy Class of 2026. The annual program gives community members a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at how local law enforcement works and how officers partner with the community to keep Battle Creek safe.

The Citizens’ Police Academy is hosted each year by the Battle Creek Police Department, in collaboration with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police. The program invites local business owners, community leaders and engaged neighbors to participate in interactive learning sessions that highlight daily police operations and broader public safety efforts.

This year’s class took part in demonstrations, equipment overviews and conversations with officers from across the region. The K-9 demonstration was a crowd favorite, with one of the department’s dogs showing off its skills — and a little personality — during a playful moment on the training table. The group also celebrated the final session with a “Congratulations CPA Class of 2026” cake.

The city and our law enforcement partners thank each graduate for their time, curiosity, and commitment to learning more about how public safety works in Battle Creek.
