The Battle Creek Police Department and other public safety agencies will hold the fourth annual Trunk-or-Treat event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Halloween – Monday, Oct. 31.
The event will take place at the BCPD, 20 N. Division St. State Street/Patterson Way will be closed adjacent to the building for the event, which is free and open to the public.
Attendance has exceeded expectations every year, so for this year’s event the BCPD is, again, seeking candy donations – and financial donations to purchase candy – for the hundreds of children expected to attend. Drop off candy donations – in the original, store-bought sealed bags ONLY – at the BCPD front desk during business hours – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Financial donations may be sent to the Battle Creek Police Department Law Enforcement Community Project Fund, a fund of the Battle Creek Community Foundation. Please make checks payable to BCCF/PDLAW and mail to Battle Creek Community Foundation, 32 W. Michigan Ave., Suite 1, Battle Creek, MI 49017.
Donations can be dropped off at the BCPD front desk during business hours – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The BCPD also wants to remind area families of trick-or-treating safety tips for all the ghosts and goblins who will collect candy on Halloween. Please note that the city has no set trick-or-treating hours for Halloween evening.
Never allow children to trick or treat alone. Ensure that older children trick or treat with friends. Adults always should accompany younger children.
Accompany children to the door of every house you visit.
Children should never enter a home without a parent’s permission.
Never let children approach a vehicle, occupied or not.
Make sure that children carry glow sticks, flash lights or wear reflective clothing.
Make sure children know never to approach a house that is not well-lit or does not have a porch or other outside light.
Children should never cut through fields or alleys without an adult.
Parents should inspect all treats and dispose of any that appear to have been opened, tampered with, or are not wrapped.
Only trick or treat in familiar neighborhoods.
Report any suspicious activity observed on Halloween by calling 911.
