[ARCHIVED] Limited power in section of downtown after fire

Downtown Battle Creek

The downtown area may have limited power to street lights, buildings, and other lighting, following an afternoon fire to which crews are still responding.

Multiple Consumers Energy crews are in the area to address power issues tonight.

In the mid-afternoon fire crews responded to a collapsed/snapped utility pole that landed on the roof of LynnIvan Salon, 89 W. Michigan Ave., sparking a fire.

It is not yet known what caused the utility pole collapse.

Visitors are asked to avoid the section of West Michigan Avenue from Carlyle Street to McCamly Street as crews continue to work. City crews will respond to any traffic signal issues in that area.

All crews are working as quickly as possible to restore power to the area.
