City officials urge everyone out and about today to use caution as they take numerous reports of trees and wires down, some of which are blocking roadways.
Acacia at Riverside Drive remains closed due to a tree down. Other reports include a blockage on 20th Street and a pole down near Helmer and Watkins. At this time there are too many incidents to list individually.
There are also numerous traffic signals without power across the city. Some are working again on generators until power is restored. Crews are working to place stop signs at those still without power.
City crews will address all of these issues as quickly as possible.
Some tips to remember during this type of weather:
-If you approach a traffic signal without power, treat it as a four-way stop.
-Stay away from downed wires. Call 911.
-Use caution while driving around the city. Officials also are taking reports of trash and recycling containers blowing over, and those could block sections of streets.
-A power outage this morning at the Verona Pump Station may result in rusty water. To address this issue, do a cold flush. Open all cold water faucets, inside and out (weather permitting). Run the water as hard as possible and flush toilets. The system should be cleaned out in three to five minutes. After the water is clean, wait about 30 minutes for any sediment in your hot water heater to settle to the bottom. Then drain about one gallon from the drain valve at the bottom of the hot water tank.
