[ARCHIVED] Next rental housing discussion event set for May 25

Owners of rental housing are invited to attend the next in a series of dinner and discussion events next Thursday, May 25.


The event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 400 Capital Ave. NE.


The panel discussion will focus on housing inspections. Participating on the panel are city Code Compliance Manager Jason Francisco, Battle Creek Housing Commission Housing Inspector Jim Kopka, Bedford and Pennfield Township Rental Housing Inspector Kim Tuck, and Calhoun County Housing Agent for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority Dagmar McKinney. There will be time for questions.


This is part of an outreach effort to area landlords, to help them develop better relationships with nonprofit service providers, and to expand opportunities for homeless families and individuals to find and remain in safe, affordable housing. This is the eighth rental property owners outreach event organized by the Rental Housing Roundtable, part of the Greater Battle Creek Homeless Coalition.

Participating organizations are Community Action, Legal Services of South Central Michigan, The Haven of Rest Ministries, Summit Pointe Housing, The Salvation Army, Southwest Michigan Community Development Corp. (formerly Neighborhoods Inc.), the Fair Housing Center of Southwest Michigan, S.A.F.E. Place, and the City of Battle Creek Community Development Division. The event is sponsored by participating organizations, with funding from the Battle Creek Housing Commission and the Battle Creek Community Foundation.


Attendees will be entered into a drawing to win prizes.
