[ARCHIVED] Second phase of BCPD construction starts next week

BCPD phase 2

Phase II construction of the new Battle Creek Police Department building will change traffic flows around the Division Street site, starting next week and lasting about four weeks.

  • Starting Wednesday, June 21: Entry to and exit from the Calhoun County Justice Center parking lot will be available via a new service drive off of Patterson Way. This new drive will remain open throughout the remainder of construction.

  • Starting after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21: The north service drive, off of Division Street, into the Calhoun County Justice Center will become an entrance only drive for this phase.

  • Patterson Way from Division Street to the new service drive will remain closed for the duration of construction.

Please watch for changing traffic signage in this area starting on Wednesday. This second construction phase will involve installing a retaining wall on the north side of the new building.

Construction started May 17 on the total $15.5 million project. The new building is designed to provide much-needed space to police staff, as well as community spaces, helping better connect police and the community.

The new Police Department site is across John Patterson Way from the current department. The entire building process is expected to take approximately 18 months, with changes in traffic flow and parking around Battle Creek City Hall and the current Police Department.

The city will communicate via our website, social media, and area media outlets as phases progress and any changes are made to traffic and parking locations around the building site.
