The City of Battle Creek and Calhoun County are collaborating to offer another free recycling event – an electronics and Styrofoam #6 collection this Saturday morning.
Those living within Calhoun County are invited to bring these items to the city’s Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St., this Saturday, Aug. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Please note that drop-off will be at the back of the building. Please follow posted signage that morning.
The following items will be accepted at this collection:
- Computers and computer equipment / laptop computers
- LCD and CRT monitors
- Printers
- Wires and cords
- Computer peripherals
- Copy/fax machines
- Audio visual equipment
- LCD / plasma / tube TVs
- Game consoles
- Stereo equipment
- Lamps
- Small kitchen appliances and electronics
- Other items with cords
- Car batteries
- Batteries
- Styrofoam #6 – polystyrene.
Polystyrene usually has the number 6 embossed on the material. It typically is used in foam cups, plates, egg cartons, and packing material. Foam packing peanuts and construction foam cannot be accepted, as this is a different type of foam. All materials must be clean to be accepted.
Any person or business with a large amount of drop-off items should contact an electronics recycling company directly for proper disposal. This collection is for residential electronic waste only and fees will apply if a large amount of material is brought to the collection without proper notice.
