[ARCHIVED] 2017-2020 City Commission sworn in; Behnke named mayor

Mark Behnke

Mark Behnke will serve as mayor for the City of Battle Creek for the coming year, and Dave Walters as vice mayor.

Behnke was chosen by a 5-4 vote, and Walters by a 6-3 vote of the City Commission during its annual organizational meeting Tuesday tonight.

All nine commissioners will serve three-year terms, because the previous City Commission approved moving city elections from odd to even years going forward. Starting in 2020, terms will return to two years.

The commission meeting schedule also was approved, and will remain the same, with meetings at 7 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month at City Hall, 10 N. Division St. Three exceptions are the April 10 meeting, a change due to spring break; and August 14, a change due to the primary election.

Find contact information for Behnke, Walters, and the rest of the commissioners at our website, www.battlecreekmi.gov. Navigate to the I Want To… tab and, under Contact, choose our easy-to-use email form, or view the contact list with the commissioners’ individual email addresses and phone numbers. Updated commissioner information will be added this week.
