The city is congratulating the four winners in the last year’s Kalamazoo and St. Joseph River Watersheds yearlong photo contest.

The Battle Creek Area Clean Water Partners holds the contest; this year’s ended in July. The contest, featuring adult and student divisions, sought seasonal photos from the two watersheds, and their tributaries, in Calhoun County. Prizes were awarded in each division.

The winners are:

Grand Prize, Adult Division
John McCann, with the photo “Battle Creek River – Kellogg’s”
Battle Creek River

Runner-up, Adult Division
Tracie Osterhart, with the photo “Blue Heron at the Falls”
Stuart’s Landing in Marshall – Kalamazoo River

Second Place, Adult Division
Linda Gillespie, with the photo “Winter Watershed”
Goguac Lake

First Place, Student Division
Naomi Todd, with the photo “On the Rocks”
Battle Creek River

The photo contest is another way for neighbors to capture, celebrate, and share with the rest of the community the rediscovered asset of the Kalamazoo River Watershed, and help foster a sense of adoption and stewardship. Other events celebrating this valuable resource are Kanoe the Kazoo and the Krazy for the Kazoo river cleanup.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the 2018 Clean Water Partners calendar, which includes some of the contest photos, and for the kickoff of the next photo contest, coming in June of 2018.

The Battle Creek Area Clean Water Partners is the City of Battle Creek; City of Springfield; Calhoun County Road Department; Calhoun County Water Resources Commission; Kellogg Community College; Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center; townships of Bedford, Emmett, Leroy, Newton, and Pennfield; and Battle Creek area schools. This group has the common goal of protecting and educating about the waterways in our area.
