City staff are excited to announce that reconstruction of the railroad crossings on Capital Avenue SW and Elm Street is anticipated during this year’s construction season.
The projects were accepted as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation Office of Rail new Local Grade Crossing Surface Program.
The Capital and Elm projects represent a more-than $540,000 investment in the City of Battle Creek – 60 percent by the state Office of Rail, and 40 percent by the railroads. No city funds will be used for these improvements.
The state approved 40 projects for 2018, including these two in Battle Creek.
More information will be released later this year, when construction dates and detours are announced.
