City officials invite the community to meet the five candidates for the city’s fire chief position.
A meet-and-greet event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8 in the City Commission chambers at City Hall, 10 N. Division St.
The candidates will give short presentations from 6-7 p.m., with time before and after to speak with members of the community. Attendees can share input on comment sheets during the event, or by email at PublicInput@battlecreekmi.gov.
The five candidates are:
- John Clark – Grand Ledge
- Brian Davis – Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
- Gregory Ginebaugh – Grand Rapids
- Brian Sturdivant – Chesterfield, Va.
- Lynn Washburn-Livingston, Davenport, Iowa
Candidates were chosen through a Michigan Municipal League hiring process. Interviews will take place next Thursday and Friday, with a panel of city and outside officials. City officials hope to name a new chief shortly thereafter.
Former Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz resigned in April, after serving just over four years with the City of Battle Creek. Since then, Police Chief Jim Blocker has served as the interim director of fire and police services.
