[ARCHIVED] Landlords invited to dinner, discussion

Landlord Luncheon event

Owners of rental housing in the city are invited to attend a dinner and discussion session on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 400 Capital Ave. NE.

Along with a delicious meal, there will be a presentation on landlord/tenant law by Legal Services of South Central Michigan. This session follows up on successful landlord luncheons held last August and September.

This event is organized by members of the Battle Creek and Calhoun County Homeless Coalition, comprised of nonprofit organizations that work with people in need of housing.

In addition to education provided by Legal Services, landlords will learn about various services and cash assistance that are available to help residents pay security deposits and utilities, as well as how supportive service providers can partner with landlords to help people find and remain in housing.

The goal of these luncheons is for service providers to develop better relationships with rental property owners and to expand opportunities for homeless families and individuals to have second chances to find safe, affordable housing.

Landlords are asked to RSVP to Kenja Moorehead at The Haven of Rest Ministries at 269-660-2945 ext. 39 or kenja.moorehead@thehavenbc.org.

Participating organizations include Legal Services, Community Action, The Haven, Summit Pointe Housing, The Salvation Army, the SHARE Center, S.A.F.E. Place and City of Battle Creek Community Development. The event is sponsored by participating organizations with funding from the Battle Creek Community Foundation and Meijer. Landlords attending the session will be entered into a drawing for two $25 Lowe’s gift cards.
