Other information: Battle Creek Fire Department crews; E-2, R-3, R-4, E-5, T-6, SQ-6, and C-3, were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 50 N. LaVista Blvd. Crews arrived to find the rear of the house on fire. R-4 extended a hand line to quickly extinguish the fire and made contact with the occupants to ensure everyone was out of the home. E-2 made entry to check for fire extension. The fire did not extend into the home. T-6 ventilated the smoke out of the structure. SQ-6 assisted with removing the rear siding to check for any hidden fire. R-3 and E-5 were cleared soon after arrival. The owner reported that he discarded hot metal, from vehicle repairs, into a trash receptacle at the rear of the home. The owner then went inside some time later. Neighbors alerted the owner that the rear of the home was on fire and all occupants exited safely.
