[ARCHIVED] City correcting recycling postcards, due to error

Battle Creek recycling carts

In the effort to help all city neighbors learn the new, every-other-week recycling rotations, the city made an error in addressing the green and yellow postcards sent out this week.

The postcards inform neighbors which color rotation they will use for the recycling program, and which week each rotation begins.

However, a spreadsheet error mixed up address information, meaning the Post Office has returned some postcards to City Hall. If you received a postcard, both the address and color rotation information may be incorrect.

The city team apologizes for this error, and the extra confusion we know it is causing our neighbors. We are correcting those postcards returned to us and sending them back out as quickly as possible. The corrected postcards will have a white address label.

The interactive map on the city’s website has correct information, and we encourage anyone to check the map to confirm your new recycling rotation. Visit the city’s home page, battlecreekmi.gov, and scroll to the City Spotlight, where you will find the map. The direct link is https://battlecreekmi.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=7f0e5a6bf31d42298f60abfe48975035

On the map page, in the Layer List box, un-check the Garbage Pickup Days box, and check the Recycling Pickup Days box. Type your address in the search box, and it will ping in a green or yellow area – this is your recycling rotation.

If you are green, place your recycling out on your typical pickup day next week, May 6-10. Follow every other week after that. If you are yellow, place your recycling out on your typical pickup day May 13-17. Follow every other week after that.

Links to the map, the brochure that includes the recycling calendar and tips, and more, also are on the city’s website at battlecreekmi.gov/recycling.

**If you have additional questions, or need help confirming your recycling rotation, please contact us – you can call or email Lizzy Paul at 269-966-3355 ext. 1889 or egpaul@battlecreekmi.gov, the City Manager’s Office staff at 269-966-3378, or Jessica VanderKolk at jlvanderkolk@battlecreekmi.gov. We will be happy to help. You also can call Waste Management at 866-797-9018.**

You also can direct message the city with your address via our social media – Facebook, Nextdoor, Twitter, and Instagram – and we will help with the recycling map.

Again, we regret this mistake and will work with everyone the best we can as we transition to the new program.
