[ARCHIVED] Fire, Police departments hold food drive

Fire Station 1 and Police Station

BCFD & BCPD continue to combine forces to serve our local community. Tuesday, May 14-Sunday, May 26, non-perishable food items are being collected at all six fire stations and at the police station. All items collected will be donated to The Salvation Army Battle Creek Corps on 400 Capital Ave NE.

“We (BCPD) are excited to partner with BCFD in a community food drive that ultimately helps the residents of the City of Battle Creek,” said Kelly Dillman, Community Outreach & Engagement Liaison for The Battle Creek Police Department.

Over 500 clients each month utilize The Salvation Army Battle Creek’s Client-Choice Food Pantry. Last year BCFD & BCPD, along with the help of the community, collected nearly 2,000 items for the pantry.

“Last November’s food drive was such a success. Without the support of BCFD, BCPD & our generous community, we wouldn’t be able to impact so many people’s lives daily. Summer time is when we typically see a big increase in need,” stated Heather Vlietstra, Development Director.

The community can help by dropping off food at whatever location is most convenient! Items most desired: canned soups, canned veggies, mac & cheese, pasta, sauces, canned fruit, cereal, oatmeal, crackers, easy meals (ravioli, Spaghetti O’s, tuna, canned chicken & proteins), elbow macaroni, peanut butter, jelly, ketchup. We will gladly accept ANY donations that are brought in. They do NOT have to be listed. These are simply suggested items.

Folks can drop off food items at the BCPD lobby from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as at our six fire stations. The stations are:

Station 1 - 195 E. Michigan Ave. (*8-5 p.m.)

Station 2 - 145 N. Washington Ave. (8 a.m.-8 p.m.)

Station 3 - 222 Cliff St. (8 a.m.-8 p.m.)

Station 4 - 8 S. 20th St. (8 a.m.-8 p.m.)

Station 5 - 1170 W. Michigan Ave. (8 a.m.-8 p.m.)

The Salvation Army-400 Capital Ave NE (9 a.m.-3:45 p.m., Mon-Fri) Items may also be dropped off at The Salvation Army Battle Creek Corps. Please let the staff know you are donating these items on behalf of BCPD & BCFD food drive.
