[ARCHIVED] Neighbors should be alert to door-to-door solicitation

color city logo2

City officials are asking neighbors to be alert to unlicensed, door-to-door solicitation, especially related to recent storm damage and construction work.

Battle Creek was in the line of a hail storm earlier this month, which left home and vehicle damage in its wake. City staff have received calls since then about individuals going door-to-door, soliciting work in areas affected by the storm.

A vendor’s permit is required for companies and/or individuals to sell their products and/or services door-to-door. There currently are no construction contractors holding valid City of Battle Creek Vendor Permits.

All valid, active vendors will have an identification badge issued by the City Clerk’s Office.

Neighbors should feel free to ask for identification from someone who claims to be a licensed vendor. If you have questions about the permitting process, or would like to see the list of current, licensed vendors, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at 269-966-3348, or visit battlecreekmi.gov. Navigate to Your Government, City Clerk, and Business Licenses.

If someone comes to your door and fails to produce a copy of their permit, ignores a “no soliciting” sticker, or otherwise causes concern, please contact Battle Creek Police at the non-emergency number, 269-781-0911.
