Other information: Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a reported houe fire on Oneita, by Greenwood. Upon arrival, Engine 2 found a single-family home with heavy fire showing in the back, and smoke throughout the structure. They initiated a fire attack, and were assisted by other arriving crews. Crews encountered a couple obstacles that complicated the response – a large Fourth of July party with many people and parked vehicles limited crew access; and a live electrical line was down in the backyard, with a Consumers Energy response taking over an hour. This was a vacant home that has experienced a previous fire. This incident was under control fairly quickly, with a lot of overhaul to check for fire extension. One fire lieutenant was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion. The fire marshal was called in to investigate. BCFD responded with 18 personnel and two command officers.
