Two downtown projects cause road closures tomorrow

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Two downtown projects will cause temporary road closures beginning this Friday, Nov. 8.

The first closure is part of the ongoing roofing project for the WKKF building.  Capital Ave. N.E., from Michigan Avenue to State Street will be closed to all traffic. Beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.  Emergency vehicles will not have access.  This section of sidewalk will also be closed.

Visitors can use the State Street parking lot.  Only local traffic will be able to travel on Capital NE between VanBuren Street and State Street.

The road and sidewalk will reopen on Monday, Nov. 11, at 7 a.m., weather permitting.

This work will impact Battle Creek Transit’s 3E Main-Post bus route this Friday and Saturday.  Beginning at 12 p.m. Friday, the bus detour will be Main Street, to Hamblin Avenue, to the Transfer Station on McCamly Street.  The bus will not service the stops in front of WKKF, at Michigan and Division, or at First United Methodist Church.  Anyone who would normally use those stops should catch the bus from the stop on Pittee Street, behind the Liberty Food Center.

Also, Battle Creek Transit’s 4N NE Capital Avenue bus route will be impacted by this work.  The bus detour will be Hamblin Avenue to Michigan Avenue.  The bus will not service the stops in from of WKKF, McCamly Street at Clara’s parking lot entrance, or in front of Willard Library on Van Buren.

The work will take place over one more weekend causing closures.  We will send updates to media, the city’s website, and on social media as soon as they are available.

The second closure is part of The Milton construction project.  Starting a 7:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, Jackson St., between McCamly St. and Capital Ave., will be closed while contractors set up a crane to use Saturday morning to place two large air-handling units on the top of the tower and lower roof on the south side.  This section of sidewalk will also be closed.  This section of road and sidewalk will reopen by Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 a.m., weather permitting.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to seek alternate routes.  We appreciate everyone’s patience during this work.
