Other information: Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a possible occupied house fire in the area of West Columbia and Lyndale. Crews discovered a detached garage fire at 28 Sylvan. BCFD responded with 19 firefighters and 1 command officer. During response, Rescue 3 was diverted to a passenger vehicle fire close to the house at 20 Vale and was assisted by Emmett Township. Squad 2 was diverted to a priority 1 medical emergency. Engine 2, Rescue 4, Engine 5, Truck 6, Squad 6, and Car 3 handled the small-detached garage fire. The fire was quickly extinguished by the crews. The garage had two rooms in it besides the vehicle bay. One room was used for a smoking area and had a small space heater in it. The probable cause was the heater igniting something close to it as that was the room of origin. Crews were on scene about 2 hours completing ventilation, salvage, and overhaul.
