Sell or Transfer a Grave Site
The sale or transfer of grave sites within Beckley Cemetery, Dubois Cemetery, or Youngs Cemetery is governed by the City of Battle Creek’s Cemetery Ordinance.
Grave sites are considered the sole and separate property of the individual named in the original Certificate of Ownership. Any sale or transfer of ownership must be formally recorded with the City Clerk’s Office to ensure the accuracy of cemetery records and the legal recognition of the new owner.
Steps to Sell or Transfer a Grave Site
Verify Ownership
Ensure you are listed as the legal owner on the original Certificate of Ownership.
Contact the City Clerk’s Office
Request the official transfer documentation and instructions.
Complete Required Forms
Fill out the transfer form and provide any supporting documentation, including proof of ownership and identification.
Submit Documentation
Return the completed forms to the City Clerk’s Office in person or by mail.
Await Confirmation
The City Clerk’s Office will review and record the transfer. You will receive confirmation once the process is complete.
Important Notice: Informal or unrecorded transfers are not recognized by the City and may result in disputes or delays in future interments.
