[ARCHIVED] Battle Creek firefighters join forces with Red Cross for free smoke alarm installations

Battle Creek firefighters join forces with Red Cross for free smoke alarm installations

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department is partnering with the American Red Cross of Southwest Michigan for their nationwide Sound the Alarm campaign.

Engine 3 firefighters will join Red Cross volunteers in the Post/Franklin neighborhood on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to install free smoke alarms in homes that need them. Thanks to a federal grant, they can also provide special alert devices for neighbors who are hard of hearing, as well as carbon monoxide detectors.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, you may have as little as two minutes to safely escape a fire. Having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of dying in a house fire by half. This collaboration aims to enhance community safety by providing neighbors with the crucial gift of time.

Busy on Saturday? No problem! Residents within city limits can contact the Battle Creek Fire Department to schedule an appointment at a more convenient time.

The Michigan Region will host Sound the Alarm events from April 26 to May 17.
