Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens’ Police Academy gives Battle Creek neighbors a behind-the-scenes look at how local law enforcement works. Through interactive, hands-on sessions, participants learn what we do, why we do it, and how we can work together to keep our community safe.

Our goal is simple: To build understanding, strengthen relationships, and create a safer Battle Creek—together.

About the Program

Hosted annually by the Battle Creek Police Department, in collaboration with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police, the Citizens’ Police Academy invites local:

  • Business owners
  • Community leaders
  • Engaged neighbors

Participants explore a variety of topics that highlight daily police operations and community safety efforts.

What You’ll Experience

Throughout the academy, participants will take part in sessions that may include:

  • Police procedures and decision-making
  • Patrol operations and traffic enforcement
  • Investigations and evidence work
  • K-9 demonstrations
  • Emergency response and special units
  • Community engagement and safety initiatives

These hands-on experiences help deepen understanding and encourage collaboration between neighbors and law enforcement.
