Crime Prevention

About the Division

The mission of the BCPD Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) is to provide support to the community on the subjects of personal, residential, and business security. We strive to educate our citizens on common security concerns that they may encounter in their everyday life and develop their awareness of the factors that make them vulnerable to victimization. In our work with local businesses and organizations, we assess their physical and procedural security practices and make detailed recommendations on how to improve them.

The CPU is comprised of two Sergeants and five Officers, all of whom are certified Security Assessment Specialists (American Crime Prevention Institute) and certified in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (Southern Police Institute). The CPU has the ability to analyze criminal activity in a certain area and address it through a variety of methods that take into account the specific needs, resources, and variables of that location.
